Prader-Willi Syndrome:
What is it?
It is the most common known genetic cause of obesity in babies and children. Normally children with this syndrome have a small stature, poor motor skills, weight gain, etc. Anyone can have it, meaning there is no difference on race or genre. The probability of a child having this syndrome is 1 in 15,000.

How does it occur?
There are different reasons why a child has it, but it has been genetically characterized as an abnormality on chromosome 15, meaning a gene mutation. Most cases happen because of a genetic error that occurs at, or near the time of conception. However, it can also be due to lack of several genes, normally being contributed by the father but prenatal testing can identify the genetic disorder.
