Define and explain the genetic disease/syndrome you have been assigned.
  • Dwarfism is a medical condition of growth retardation resulting in an unusually or abnormally short adult stature caused by a variety of hereditary and metabolic disorders.
This diagram points out the pituitary gland, this gland is responsible for growing
  • A typical person with this condition will grow 4 feet 10 inches or under according to LPA (little people of America)
  • This syndrome can be caused by one of more than 300 conditions which must are genetic. 70% of all cases of little people are called achondroplasia.
  • An intellectual disability, a typical case of dwarfism is of normal intelligence.
  • Dwarfism doesn’t require a cure; they normally live a long and fulfilling life.
  • Dwarfism isn’t a reason to assume someone is incapable; they go to school, work and more.

Explain how your genetic disease occurs- gene or chromosomal mutation.
  • Dwarfism occurs because of a spontaneous genetic change (mutation) in the egg or sperm cell prior to conception.
  • Other wise it can also becaused by genetic changes inherited from one or both parents.
  • It is possible to:
  • To average-size parents and have a child with short stature
  • To have to little people and have an average kid.
Here you can see two parents with the dwarfism syndrome and they had three average children and one with the syndrome.
  • The chromosomal abnormalities, pituitary gland disorder (which influence growth and metabolism) make that the body can’t absorb nutrients adequately and kidney disease can all lead tohave a abnormality on growing
  • What prompts a gene to mutate is not yet clearly understood

Explain the benefits and limitations of your genetic disease; these may include the identification process or how gene therapy and genetic engineering is being used.
  • Even though having the dwarfism syndrome is a big limitation because of not being an average height human there is still benefits of having this disease:
  • They have preference in certain locations
  • There are million ofsearches were they are trying to develop a certain way were people can choose whether or not have a dwarf kid.
  • There is new
As seen here there is two competitors in an Olympic swimming competition.
Olympic games were they can participate
  • People with this synd
rome can do everything a normal person can do because of the inventions there has been developed for them they can drive, cook etc.
  • Limitations (possible disadvantages):
  • “May experience hydrocephalus (excess fluid around the brain)
  • Risk of developing apnea — a temporary stop in breathing during sleep
    • Delayed development of some motor skills, such as sitting up and walking
    • A greater susceptibility to ear infections and hearing loss
    • Breathing problems caused by small chests
    • Weight problems
    • Curvature of the spine (scoliosis, kyphosis, and/or lordosis)
    • Bowed legs
    • Trouble with joint flexibility and early arthritis
    • Lower back pain or leg numbness
    • Crowding of teeth in the jaw”

Discuss how social, economicalissues are associated with your disease/syndrome.
